There will be a mandatory safety and emergency procedures briefing for parents and guardians who are working on Grad Night, June 7. This mandatory meeting will be on Wednesday, June 5, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the LGHS Large Gym led by Grad Night Parents, Erik Anslinger and Bill Frangieh.

Grad Night Emergency Radios
We have a limited number of walkie-talkie radios on hand for key volunteers to use during the event. These radios may be used in addition to personal cell phones. In the event of an emergency, and if you're in possession of one of these radios, alert our Security Chair, Bill Frangieh, of the issue. If you happen to have been given a radio, or are near one, or hear voice traffic on the radio, please do not engage if you are not able to be a part of the solution. Security personnel, and the person with the emergency should be the only persons using the radios until there is no longer an emergency-related issue.
First Aid
We have three RNs and three medical doctors covering shifts on Grad Night. We'll have one or two of them stationed at our First Aid station on Chicago Ave in our Baggage Claim area, Gate 10. The other First Aid attendant will be staffed in our Parent Lounge located in the Design Building, Room D105. Our First Aid staff are also senior parents volunteers. The most important thing to remember, is do not move a fallen person or anyone that is acting incoherent—reach out to our First Aid staff.
Medical Emergencies
Do not move a person who has fallen. In the event of a serious emergency, call
(408) 299-3144, which connects us to Santa Clara County emergency dispatch. Next, radio or call for our First Aid staff to help assess the situation.
Fire
If you are in an area where a fire ignited, act quickly! We have fire extinguishers stashed at our First Aid station on Chicago Avenue. Attempt to extinguish the fire as soon as possible, then, notify Bill Frangieh, (650) 619-3659. If the fire is spreading quickly or is beyond control, you must safely evacuate the students. Calm the group and begin evacuation by having the group walk quickly to the most available exit. If this happens, clearly we call the Santa Clara County Fire Department and that should be done by anyone who sees a fire on campus. For medical emergencies, call (408) 299-3144 which connects us to the Santa Clara County Emergency Dispatch.
Power Outage Procedure
There are several bug eyes in the Large Gym that go on if the power goes out. These are dim lights but they will provide enough light to get out of the building. Supervise the mass exit by keeping everyone moving past the emergency exits. All exits must remain clear! Once outside, students should follow the standard evacuation procedure and head to the parking lot next to Helm Field. Encourage students to use the flashlight app on their cell phone for additional light. Maintain order by calming the crowd.
Earthquake Evacuation
Students have been practicing evacuation drills at school and will follow standard procedure. We'll gather students and help them exit out of any interior spaces to the parking lot towards Helm Field. We'll have a list and check-off the kids. It's unlikely that we'll need to have them go onto the football field but that would be the next step. Once you go on the football field, it will be hard to account for everyone.
Alcohol/Drugs Use
If you witness use of controlled substance, contact Bill Frangieh, (650) 619-3659, our Grad Night Security Chair. He will join you, and together confront the problem and act as necessary. Do NOT intercede unless you are confident that you will retrieve the contraband. We want the problem out of Grad Night, not just have a senior pass off the items during investigation.
Unruliness/Fighting
Call Bill Frangieh, (650) 619-3659, our Grad Night Security Chair and Andy Trevino, (408) 966-9191, our hired security. Together, Bill and Andy will make a judgment call when interceding in a physical confrontation. Always, always, always call for backup before you move into a physical or potentially physical incident. No one needs to get hurt and security professionals can often defuse a fight using verbal judo…. and have cuffs if the incident goes too far! If needed, we may contact the Los Gatos Police by calling (408) 354-6800. Please use good judgment if you need to call the LGPD directly, as we may have less of an ordeal by removing the problem-student(s) and having their parent(s) or LGPD retrieve them from the quiet room rather than coming into a common area and disrupting Grad Night for others.
